Get a better Understanding of the Belt Sander

Having two parallel drums on its underside spun with a motor a belt sander is a power tool. To level wood or sand and other materials a continuous loop of a sanding belt, or sandpaper, is pulled around the drums.

As compared to most sanders, Lathes and belt sander are a much rougher tool and for certain projects demanding rough surface leveling or quick removal they are generally only required. To remove other finishes or paint from materials they are also commonly used.

greater working surface area on your materials are offered by these wider sanding belts, but to control they also tend to be a bit more difficult. When working with a belt sander it’s easy to make avoidable errors; it takes only one moment to remove too much material or lose control.

Of course for motor size the same is true, the more power you have to control the more amps you have. So essentially, with their belt sanders operators should be cautious and comfortable; for example, to achieve with one of these bulky power tools like Bandsaws the precision of finish sanding is pretty difficult.

Maintenance:

However, some pretty serious shop abuse can be tolerated by them with the help of the bulky build of belt sanders. General maintenance is relatively simple and they are tough. The fact that the two cylindrical rollers (drums) the sanding belt sits on remain in perfect alignment needs to be certain.

The belt will slip off and will not track in the center of the rollers if the rollers are not precisely parallel.

Each time you change the belt in the Belt Sanders you should try to adjust the rollers as a rule. With a manual tracking knob on the side of the tool this can be done. The belt will either slip off of them altogether or push toward the inside of the rollers if your drums are tilted.

They can also push the belt up toward the housing if the rollers are poorly aligned, and to both the belt and the housing this could cause damage.

As you work, remember to be slow and cautious as belt sanders can be rough. The belt sander is unbeatable for quick leveling and removal.
